Rajaratnam seeks more detail on charges, delay
Rajaratnam and former New Castle Funds LLC trader Danielle Chiesi are the principal defendants among 21 people charged last October and November in what U.S. prosecutors described as the biggest probe of illegal insider trading involving hedge funds.
U.S. prosecutors have charged Rajaratnam with using "material, non-public" information to make about $45 million in illegal profits on 12 stocks. In letters in March and April, the government indicated it suspected Rajaratnam of using confidential information to trade on an additional 22 stocks. Those were not formally added to the indictment.
"In order to prepare his defense to this factual issue, Mr Rajaratnam must therefore be given notice of what the alleged inside information actually was and when it was communicated; it is not sufficient to inform him that the government believes it to be material and non-public," lawyer John Dowd said in a brief in U.S. District Court in New York.
"Defense counsel are entitled to know who allegedly tipped Mr Rajaratnam so that they can investigate these allegations further before trial, but the general haphazardness of the government's allegations, and its failure to provide this basic information, continues to prevent counsel from doing so."
A spokeswoman for the office of the Manhattan U.S. Attorney declined to comment on Monday. Judge Richard Holwell has scheduled October 25 for the start of the trial of Rajaratnam and Chiesi. Their lawyers have not proposed an alternative trial date.
Both have pleaded not guilty. The securities fraud charges against them carry possible maximum prison sentences of 20 years.
Eleven of those charged last year have pleaded guilty to conspiracy and securities fraud charges, some of them former friends and business associates of Rajaratnam.
On May 7, Rajaratnam asked the court to suppress wiretap evidence on the grounds that government agents misled a judge into approving secret telephone recordings of Rajaratnam and others by providing incomplete information.

Set against a backdrop of nationwide frustration with Washington and disapproval of Congress, Tuesday's key Senate primary contests have shaped up as battles of would-be outsiders versus incumbents or the D.C. "establishment."
While it's important to remember these are state-level -- not national -- races with their own dynamics, together they'll add some compelling data points to the political trend lines for 2010.
Here's a few things to watch for on primary day, and beyond:

In Pennsylvania's Democratic primary, incumbent Arlen Specter is trying to hold off a hard, late charge from Rep. Joe Sestak, who's closed a big gap in the polls in recent weeks to make this into a dead heat in the Quinnipiac poll released last week.

Though some polls suggest Lincoln is on track to finish on top Tuesday, watch for whether she (or Halter) can get enough to avoid a runoff in this multi-candidate race -- which would mean more weeks spent on each other and still less time focused on the challenge for the fall.
In the bigger picture, Lincoln has quite the balancing act: she needs to not just ultimately hold off this primary challenge but also must eye November in this increasingly Republican-leaning state. She's looked to stay viable and centrist for the general election. Watch for whether her recent support for financial reforms proves to be pushback enough against Wall Street and the ways of Washington for Tuesday's voters.
Still, this primary process raises questions about troubles ahead for her even if she ultimately survives. Without strong -- in fact, near unanimous -- support from the Democratic base, which she obviously does not have right now, winning in November becomes that much harder.

Polls here suggest an edge for the newcomer Paul heading into the election. One key to watch will be turnout and organizing, how well Paul's get-out-the-vote operation matches up against Grayson's, and whether activists' enthusiasm for Paul drives turnout to compensate if it doesn't.
Tea Party organizers claimed a major impact over the Republican nominating process in Utah last week, as incumbent Bob Bennett failed to even emerge from the state convention. Kentucky would be a second triumph if Paul succeeds, and a more widespread test in a larger electorate.
But afterward, if Paul does win, watch for how his campaign is perceived by the moderates he'll need to ultimately win the general election. If he happens to end up in the national spotlight come the summer or fall, that question could also apply not just to Kentucky but to the GOP's courting of moderates nationwide.
One final note for all three: As with most primaries, turnout is not only the deciding factor but often the hardest to one predict. A Wonderful Pingpong Match
Turning on my TV set, I kept my eyes on the screen. A wonderful match was going on between the first rate ping pong players Deng Yaping and Chen Jing. Each was trying her best to show who is the queen in the kingdom of ping pong. The head coach was sitting them watching his two students fighting each other for the gold medal with a straight face. Maybe he was saying to himself in anger, "Chen Jing, what is in your mind? I have taught you how to play against rivals. Now you have turned against me." In the first two sets, Deng Yaping kept changing her tactics, attacking and blocking in turn forcefully. Chen Jing was quick in reaction and attacked and defended at high speed. After all, Deng Yaping is a cut above her and won the first two sets, at ease. In the third set things changed suddenly. Chen Jing's fans and Den Yaping's fans had, some unpleasant encounter, which disturbed Deng Yaping emotionally. Chen took advantage of this moment and won the third and fourth sets. Now the fifth set was the key to suecess. The hcad each told Deng Yaping to use their secret weapon which is unknown to Chen Jing. Deng Yaping calmed herself and attacked with overwhemlming foree and flashing speed and smashed Chen Jing's attacks. The more she fights, the braver she is. At last she again saved the honor of the Chinese ping pong team and captured the gold medal. She finished the last beat with tears running down her cheecks. I was crying too. It saddens me to see members of one nation fighting each other as rivals on opposing sides at international matches. Now the Chinese five star red flag is slowly rising accompanied by the national anthem. Deng Yaping, you are the pride of our country!

Mobile satellite communication is a kind of communication service technology, which has a huge space for development. This paper is about the research of stabilizing servo system aiming at the satellite communication of small-bore parabolic dish. The purpose is to isolate the disturbance from moving vehicles, which will affect the antenna pointing, and keep the antenna in alignment with the satellite to ensure communicating fluently.Firstly, the structure of control system has been discussed, and three-axis stabilized control is adopted which is based on sensors at lower cost, stepping motors, and controller. Over the years, the great majority of men have suecessfully resisted all attempts to make them change their style of dress. The same cannot be said of women. I want a pair of cheap nike shoes.Each year. a few so called “top designers” in Paris and London lay down the law and women the whole world over rush to obey. This year,they decide in their arbitrary fashion, skirts will be short and waists will be high; zips are in and buttons are out. Next year the law is reversed and far from taking exception, no one is even mildly surprised.
If women are mercilessly exploited year after year, they have only themselves to blame, because they are afraid of the thought of being seen in public in clothes that are out of fashion.I would like to take this chi hair straightener. “ I ' ve never met a human worth cloning, ” says cloning expert Mark Westhusin from the cramped confines of his lab at Texas A&M University. “ It ' s a stupid endeavor. ” That ' s an interesting choice of adjective, coming from a man who has spent millions of dollars trying to clone a 13 - year - old dog named Missy. So far, he and his team have not succeeded, though they have cloned two calves and expect to clone a cat soon. They just might succeed in cloning Missy later this year — or perhaps not for another five years. It seems the reproductive system of man ' s best friend is one of the mysteries of modern science.
Westhusin ' s experience with cloning animals leaves him vexed by all this talk of human cloning. In three years of work on the Missyplicity project, using hundreds upon hundreds of canine eggs, the A&M team has produced only a dozen or so embryos carrying Missy ' s DNA. None have survived the transfer to a surrogate mother. The wastage of eggs and the many spontaneously aborted fetuses may be acceptable when you ' re dealing with cats or bulls, he argues, but not with humans. “ Cloning is incredibly inefficient, and also dangerous,” he says.
Even so, dog cloning is a commercial opportunity, with a nice research payoff. Ever since Dolly the sheep was cloned in 1997, Westhusin ' s phone at A&M College of Veterinary Medicine has been ringing busily. Cost is no obstacle for customers like Missy ' s mysterious owner, who wishes to remain unknown to protect his privacy. He ' s plopped down $3.7 million so far to fund the research because he wants a twin to carry on Missy s fine qualities after she dies. But he knows her clone may not have her temperament. In a statement of purpose, Missy ' s owner and the A&M team say they are “ both looking forward to studying the ways that her clone differs from Missy. ”
The fate of the dog samples will depend on Westhusin ' s work. He knows that even if he gets a dog viably pregnant, the offspring, should they survive, will face the problems shown at birth by other cloned animals: abnormalities like immature lungs and heart and weight problems. “ Why would you ever want to clone humans, ” Westhusin asks, “ when we re not even close to getting it worked out in animals yet? ”

It is an intellect to which one still listens. Hence we ever remain under the influence of the great men of old. The imperial intellects of the world are as much alive now as they were ages ago.
